Dreamcar – Kill For Candy
You may never have heard from Dreamcar, but this is a genuine supergroup. Dreamcar are none other than the remaining members of No Doubt (Tony Kanal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont) plus AFI frontman Davey Havok. Their first single Kill For Candy, with its New Order-like bass, is ultra-catchy.
Luckily, a debut album is not far away. Itâs scheduled for release in May. *End of poem*

Aeroplane (feat. Tawatha Agee) – Love On Hold
Vito de Luca is a Belgian nu-disco producer, working under the Aeroplane moniker. Superstar and We Canât Fly are just two great examples of his music, that works equally well on the dance floor and on the radio.
And guess what? Aeroplane is back. This time he even dove deeper to the original roots of his music, by asking Tawatha Agee to sing on his new single. If her name doesnât ring a bell: she sang backing vocals for people like Luther Vandross and David Bowie in the 80âs, and was a member of Mtume, whose classic Juicy Fruit was famously sampled in The Notorious B.I.G.âs hit Juicy.
And now, her iconic voice is featured in Aeroplaneâs new bass-heavy funkinâ disco track Love On Hold. The 80âs just rang⊠they want their sound back! ?

Kasabian – Youâre In Love With A Psycho
In September 2016, Kasabian released the track Comeback Kid exclusively on the FIFA 17 game. You’re In Love With A Psycho will be the second song on their upcoming album For Crying Out Loud (to be released on 28 April) and itâs also the second track to be released off it.
Q Magazine described Youâre In Love With A Psycho as âa brilliantly daft slice of disco-punk funâ. That sounds quite differently from what singer/guitarist Sergio Pizzorno says of the album in an NME interview, where he claims itâs inspired by Nirvana and The Stooges and calls it âguitar-heavyâ.
Apparently, he doesnât mean heavy guitars, for those are nowhere to be heard on this single. Still, itâs pleasant enough and it does make me curious for the album, which Pizzorno also described as âa proper feel-good albumâ. Confusing!

Soulwax – Do You Want To Get Into Trouble?
Belgian music masterminds Soulwax released their new album From Deewee yesterday. A 12-track collection of adventurous electronic pop songs as weâve come to expect from the Dewaele brothers.
Halfway through the album youâll find one of the highlights, Do You Want To Get Into Trouble? Apparently incorporating Giorgio Moroderâs Donna Summer era synthesizer (or at least the sound of it), it has a great drive. Playing this in your car will definitely end up getting you a speeding ticketâŠ

The Magic Gang – How Can I Compete
The Magic Gang are four kids from the south of England. They all live together in a house in Brighton now and make music all day, like The Monkees did. They claim to make âlaser guided guitar pop songs that sound like the point that Steely Dan intersects with Weezerâ.
Listen to their new single with that reference in mind, and indeed youâll hear a somewhat lighter, more sophisticated, but ever as catchy version of Weezer. How Can I Compete is on The Magic Gang’s third EP (cleverly entitled EP Three), that was released today. They work on a debut album to be released this year.

European Border Breakers Chart 24 March 2017
Set your alarm at Fridays around noon (or simply sign up for chart alerts), for that is the day and time that the new European Border Breakers Charts are published. Each week choke full of great European talent that is being played on radio stations outside their home countries. The artists and tracks that are likely to cross-over to your country within a few months.
Let me highlight some of this weekâs 12 (re)entries in the chart. The amazing Alma (pictured) is in at #56 with her new single Chasing Highs. Confusing that the French representative to the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is also called Alma. But the Finnish Alma is the original! Chasing Highs is the follow-up to her earlier EBBChart hits Karma and Dye My Hair (currently at #5).
Elsewhere in the list we find Somebody Better by Black Honey at #95. Also this week, Loyle Carner re-enters the EBBChart with not one, but two tracks: The Isle Of Arran (#78) and â ahead of its deserved re-release mid-April â Ainât Nothing Changed (#99).
As always, click the âEBBChartâ tab at the top of this blog for the complete Top 100 (loading of the PDF may take a little while). For more charts (like the Bubbling Under, which ranks the tracks that are on their way to the Top 100), please visit www.europeanborderbreakerschart.eu

Blas CantĂł – In Your Bed
Auryn is a Spanish boy band, made up of five members that appeared previously on various tv talent shows in Spain. Although they have songs in English and Spanish, they are mainly popular in their home country.
I have a feeling this might change for one of those five: Blas CantĂł. He entered another talent show, which he won easily last February. His first solo single sounds like it could be a hit all over Europe, or even the world. Do you like Justin Timberlake? Then let me introduce you to Blas CantĂł!

Me & My Toothbrush – Menace
Last year I âdiscoveredâ (for myself; they had been discovered by others before) Swiss act Me & My Toothbrush with their double A-sided single Drop That/All The Time. Funky disco stuff!
New track Menace is a somewhat heavier affair, where they bring in a bluesy power-chord guitar lick for extra flavour. It blends well with the dirty bass that keeps the track going.

The Gift – Big Fish
Type âThe Gift Big Fishâ in Google and youâll end up with plenty of links to a game platform. But the real catch is this new single by Portuguese band The Gift, the follow-up to Clinic Hope.
Big Fish is the third track released ahead of their sixth album Altar, which will be available digitally on 7 April (followed by physical versions on CD and vinyl on 5 May). The album was produced by Brian Eno and mixed by Flood, so the chances that it wonât sound great are zero.

Ten Tonnes – Silver Heat
You may not know upcoming 19-year-old singer-songwriter Ten Tonnes. Even when I tell you his real name, Ethan Barnett, that might not ring a bell. But what if Iâd tell you heâs the younger brother of George Ezra? Would that make you more interested?
Shame on you! Ten Tonnes would be just as interesting an artist if he would have been my younger brother. Even the fact that his new single was produced by The Maccabeesâ Hugo White shouldnât make a difference.
Just listen to the track, of which Barnett says: âItâs really just about looking back, in part about my ex-girlfriend, but more about that mood you can get into, when a flashback hits you suddenly, and youâre right back in that place.â
