School Of X – Words
Drummers who sing as well⊠Sometimes that turns out quite successful. Phil Collins, Dave Grohl, Don Henley, Sheila E., Ringo Starr, Karen Carpenter. Do you want me to continue? Well, I wonât, because Iâve got a brand new example to introduce to youâŠ
Rasmus Littauer is a Danish drummer, who drummed for MĂž, for instance. Now, he takes the front. School Of X is his solo project. Solo in the exact meaning of the word. He composes, records and produces everything on his own. What results is dreamy pop.
So far, School Of X released a few tracks, one of them being a SadĂ© cover. The first single to be released on a larger scale (via Spotify et al.), is Words. A song that slowly crawls under you skin. Donât say I didnât warn you⊠đ

European Border Breakers Chart 23 June 2017
Summer may have started and the holidays come in sight, but the European Border Breakers Chart shows no signs of slowing down. This week 15 (re)entries grace the Top 100. Six of them are first-timers: Artists For Grenfell – Bridge Over Troubled Water (#37), Liv – Heaven (#76), TĂ©mĂ© Tan – AmĂ©thys (#87), Joe Fox – Aftershow (#90), Little Cub – Too Much Love (#99) and Saint Sister – Causing Trouble (#100).
Elsewhere, Never Enough by The Hunna (pictured) tops the Bubbling Under chart, which ranks the tracks that are on their way to the Top 100.
Click the âEBBChartâ tab in the top menu of this blog for the full chart (loading of the PDF may take a little while). For more (like this weekâs chart analysis), please visit www.europeanborderbreakerschart.eu.

Julian Velard – Donât Ask Me About Hamilton (Anymore) / Goodbye Hollywood, Hello Adulthood
For years now, Julian Velard has been working hard on his career. And successfully, although his profile is particularly high in the United States. So, it seems like he thought: âperhaps recording an album about failure will be my ticket to stardomâ. Chances are, that was some really good thinkingâŠ
On Fancy Words For Failure, Velard gets more up close and personal than ever before. Probably because there were quite some changes in his personal life, recently. He married and became a father. No failures there, then. Musically the album is flawless as well, positioning itself somewhere halfway Billy Joel and Harry Connick Jr.
The record features The Night Ed Sheeran Slept On My Couch (released in 2015 already) and his recent single Sweatpants On The Living Room Floor. But the album opener Donât Ask Me About Hamilton (Anymore) is my favourite.
This track is referenced in that other favourite of mine: Goodbye Hollywood, Hello Adulthood. Perhaps the most prophetical title of them allâŠ

Moby & The Void Pacific Choir – All The Hurts We Made
In 2016, Moby & The Void Pacific Choir (consisting of Mindy Jones, Julie Mintz, Jonathan Nesvadba, Joel Nesvadba, Jamie Drake and Lauren Tyler Scott) released These Systems Are Failing. A heavy album with heavy themes to it. The songs were very critical of the political and cultural climate in the United States. Are You Lost In The World Like Me? and A Simple Love were great singles, but sadly neglected by radio.
In 2017, Moby and his troupe are as mad at the US government as ever. So much so, that they recorded another album full of fierceness: More Fast Songs About The Apocalypse. And fast they are. All of âem. But you can leave it up to Moby to stick a beautiful melody under a stack of hard hitting beats and smashing guitars. In a remixed form, All The Hurts We Made could be a good radio single.
But itâs not Mobyâs intention to get these songs on the radio. These songs are meant for you. Thatâs why the 9-track album is available as a free download. Moby encourages fans to donate the money they would normally pay for the album to the charity of their choice.

Wildcard (week 25): IX – Difference
Marnix Dorrestein is a songwriter, composer, producer, arranger, singer, piano player, guitarist, drummer⊠well, in fact he plays on everything he comes across. After winning the largest Dutch talent show with his band Ăber-Ich in 2012, he was invited to attend a talent development plan. This resulted in his first musical solo project, IX, which is actually a trio.
You can hear a big love for â60s, â70s and â80s pop in his music, which he calls nostalgic future pop. But a partly electronic cabinet of instruments and exotic influences make it sound rather more futuristic than nostalgic, as youâll witness on IXâs new EP 00:00.
Anyway, these are only words and music must be heard. So why donât you hit âplayâ? And again? And again? Difference by IX is this weekâs Carte Blanche Music Wildcard!

Pimpy Panda feat. Alana & NiCo Gomez – Donât Give Up
If you dig Tower Of Power, be sure to check Pimpy Panda. Youâre not going to believer theyâre actually from Germany. I can hear you think: âfunk and soul from Germany? Yeah rightâŠâ. But donât judge before you heard it, they’re groovy!
Pimpy Panda just released their new album Pandrenalin as well, although itâs not yet available on streaming platforms. Schade⊠Don’t Give Up is the new single!

Dangers Of The Sea – You And I
Dangers Of The Sea is a side project of band members from Danish bands Saybia, Slaraffenland and Folkeklubben, who are known for the craftsmanship in their songwriting. Their self-titled debut album, in 2013, gave them a full tour schedule, bringing the band far beyond their home country.
You And I is a brand new single, the first new music we hear from their upcoming second album, set to be released on 20 October. A beautiful song, but I canât help but hearing Sugar Baby Love by The Rubettes in it ? .

Everything Everything – Canât Do
Everything Everything see double sometimes. Not long after their debut single Suffragette Suffragette they released Cough Cough.
The British band, whoâs frontman Jonathan Higgsâs falsetto is an ear catching element in their music, has been bubbling in the underground circuit for some time now. Slowly but surely however, they are moving towards a (well-deserved) larger public. With their latest album Get To Heaven, most notably the singles Distant Past and Regret, they made an important step on their way to the spot lights.
18 August Everything Everything release a fourth attempt, the album A Fever Dream. It was produced by James Ford, a member of Simian Mobile Disco, who also produced Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons and – most recently – Depeche Mode.
The album is preceded by the single Canât Do. Another step in the right direction for the Manchester quartet.

Monday, re-run day. Each Monday morning I look back upon the past week to see what new songs were the absolute best. In the last seven days I added George Ezra, Macklemore, The Killers, Oh Wonder and many more to my Carte Blanche Music container playlist. Every single one of them great tracks, but when compiling Wernerâs Weekly Iâm very strict.

- Nana Adjoa – The Resolution (this weekâs Wildcard)
- Triggerfinger – Flesh Tight (last weekâs Wildcard)
- Fabri Fibra feat. Thegiornalisti – Pamplona
- Kadebostany – Mind If I Stay
