Aston Merrygold – One Night In Paris
After British boy band JLS (primarily successful in Great-Britain) disbanded, Aston Merrygold chose to start a solo career. His debut album Showstopper has yet to be released, but he already scored a big solo hit with the Bruno Mars-like Get Stupid.
His new single One Night In Paris is just as recognizable, cleverly combining sounds from the likes of Mika, Michael Jackson and even Duran Duran. I’d be surprised if this radio friendly track wouldn’t send Aston Merrygold up the charts once again. Une nuit à Paris baby!

European Border Breakers Chart 14 April 2017
The highest entry in the existence of the European Border Breakers Chart is for Harry Styles, who comes in at #2 this week. A very, very impressive achievement, which seems to point in ‘one direction’ only… But perhaps even more impressive is the power displayed by Jax Jones feat. Raye, who retain the crown. Their single You Don’t Know Me was played over twice as often as Styles’s Sign Of The Times last week, and reached double the number of listeners. Harry has some catching up to do…
Among the 14 (re)entries this week, there are five other first-timers: Jim Pandzko feat. Jan Böhmermann (#61), Aston Merrygold (#80), Olsson (#87), Kelly Lee Owens feat. Jenny Hval (#99) and Basic Tape vs. Frances (#100), hailing from Germany, the UK, Sweden and France. How is that for cultural diversity?
My favourite entry this week? No Matter by Basic Tape vs. Frances (pictured). This is in fact a remix by French outfit Basic Tape of the track No Matter off Frances’ album Things I’ve Never Said. The original still sits at #73 in the chart.

European Border Breakers Chart 24 February 2017
Each Friday new European Border Breakers Charts are published. These charts show which emerging European bands are getting airplay outside their home countries, and where in Europe this free publicity takes place. Very interesting information for artists and fans, but also for managements, media, bookers and so on.
This week the EBBChart has a new number one, but with the smallest of margins. So don’t be surprised if things look differently next week. But that’s what charts are all about, aren’t they?
As always there is plenty of new blood in the charts. Four out of the fifteen (re)entries are first time visitors: Anne-Marie (Ciao Adios, #54), Off Bloom (Falcon Eye, #70), Rhys (Last Dance, #92) and Pixx (I Bow Down, #93).
My personal recommendations among the re-entries include Fil Bo Riva (Franzis, #88), Aston Merrygold (Get Stupid, #94) and Orange Skyline (Sound And Fury, #96). Check them out!
