Cassia – Another One Down
Ahead of their new album Lemon Gelato (out on 4 September), British trio Cassia release an upbeat new single. Another One Down sounds more groove-driven than earlier records, with prominent drums and percussion that provide a distinctive live-feeling. I dare you to sit still to this tune!
Another One Down by Cassia is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. It will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for an entire week.

Cassia – Movers And Shapers
Cassia may not be a household name yet, but their debut album Replica already features seven singles: 100 Times Over, Sink, Out Of Her Mind, Get Up Tight, Loosen Up, Small Spaces and the title track. Does this make Cassia the first band to release a ‘best of’ set as their first album? 😉
Whether this is the case or not, Replica is a very fine compilation of what the band have been up to the last years, and in case you missed that, it’s the best possible introduction. Cassia is a British trio that combine indie-pop with elements of tropical and world music, not unlike Vampire Weekend did early in their career.
Next to the seven singles, this long-player counts four new tracks. Funnily, Movers And Shapers was the title of an EP the band released in 2018, but the EP’s title track features on this album for the first time.

Cassia – Small Spaces
Cassia are Rob Ellis (lead vocals, guitar), Lou Cotterill (bass, vocals), and Jacob Leff (drums, vocals). A British trio that combine indie-pop with elements of tropical and world music in their songs, not unlike Vampire Weekend, for instance.
In less than three years, they released ten singles and an EP. Quite some output, that brought them sold-out shows and rave reviews. But the best has yet to come. Or rather: their best yet has just come out. Small Spaces could bring them big things…

Your ‘All-Time’ Favourites (2017-2022)
The last six years, starting in 2017, I posted 10 musical recommendations per week on this blog. A total of well over 3.000 tracks, mostly by upcoming – often female (fronted) – artists from all over the world. As I explained yesterday, Carte Blanche Music is entering a new era. One in which I’ll focus my efforts on my constantly updated Spotify playlist.
For sure, that doesn’t mean the blog is closing down. It’ll continue to be the home of my ‘best of’ collection (Werner’s Weekly) on Monday mornings (CET) and my favourite new track (the Carte Blanche Music Wildcard), every Wednesday morning. Also, I’ll post the latest additions to my playlist on Saturdays. For updates, follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Tilly Louise – Baggy T-Shirt
Tilly Louise, from Liverpool, is a self professed fan-girl of local acts like Zuzu and Pixey. Well, that makes two of us then. Furthermore, she takes inspiration from the likes of Paramore, Haim and Blondie. Over the years Louise played multiple sold out shows. Both headline gigs and opening for her heroes such as Cassia and Fickle Friends.
Baggy T-Shirt is only her fourth single, and I think it’s a banger. Followers may already know the song, for it’s been part of Louise’s setlist for some time now. It proved to be a fan-favourite way ahead of its formal release. This is in part thanks to it gaining popular buzz on TikTok, with fans creating fun videos to the track.
Self-produced and self-recorded, Baggy T-Shirt encapsulates everything great about indie guitar-pop, combining strong ‘90s nostalgia with alternative rock influence.

Your favourites (February 2019)
So far, this winter can hardly be called a winter, and you won’t hear me complain about it. In February, weather record after record was broken. It looks like this is reflected in your favourites of this past month. There’s a sunny vibe running through this Top 10, which features the most read Carte Blanche Music recommendations of February.
Dutch producer Sir Notch has not one, but two tracks amidst your favourites. Last year’s Gimme That Sunshine still resonates with you, while his latest single (a co-production with his youth friend Tommy The Sound) stands proudly at #2.
Talking about being proud: the only two established artists in your Top 10 are Pet Shop Boys and Dodgy, all of the other entries are emerging – or even debuting – acts. You guys have great taste!
