Werner’s Weekly (week 43)
‘Old’ heroes like Claw Boys Claw, Def Leppard, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Kim Wilde, Kylie Minogue, Macy Gray, Richard Ashcroft and Weezer never die, even though you hardly hear them on the radio anymore. Giving them the credits they deserve, I added their new singles to the Carte Blanche Music playlist last week.
However, most of this list consists of younger, mostly emerging artists, like Amber Arcades, Angèle, Boy Azooga, Fil Bo Riva and Oh Pep! The playlist is updated constantly, so if you follow it, I’ll keep you updated about great new music, the moment it comes out (and often even earlier 😉).
The best of them all can be found in Werner’s Weekly, your compass to the music that matters. This week’s edition is below, including links to more information about each track. All for of them are in the Werner’s Weekly player in the sidebar, for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
- Harts – Shake Ya Pants (Wildcard this week)
- Janelle Monáe – Americans (Wildcard last week)
- Anteros – Ordinary Girl
- Fyfe & Iskra Strings – Gold

European Border Breakers Chart 15 December 2017
2017 isn’t over yet, there are still plenty new artists to be discovered. Throughout the year, the European Border Breakers Chart is a great tool to do so. It reflects the crossborder success of emerging European artists on 50 public radio stations.
Once again, the Top 100 counts a lot of (re)entries. 17 of them. Nine tracks have never been in the list before: Dua Lipa – Golden Slumbers (#57), Freya Ridings – Lost Without You (#64), Not3s – My Lover (#77), Grace Carter – Ashes (#84), Vibbar – Sweden (#94), Jadu Heart x Mura Masa – U Never Call Me (#95), Xenoula – Luna Man (#97), CliQ feat. Alika – Wavey (#98) and Fil Bo Riva – Head Sonata (Love Control) (#100; pictured).
How many of these promising artists did you know already? If you want to listen to their tracks and watch their videos, please head over to www.europeanborderbreakerschart.eu and click the play/share button behind each track. This button also lets you share the song’s position if you like what you hear. On the site you’ll find the complete Top 100, as well as other charts (like the Tips, ranking the tracks that are on their way to the Top 100).
Werner’s Weekly (week 46)
What ‘big names’ I added to my daily updated Carte Blanche Music playlist last week, you ask? How about Dannii Monigue, Icona Pop, Liam Gallagher, Morrissey, Turin Brakes and The Wombats? But perhaps more interesting, from a discovery point of view, are less well-known artists like Fil Bo Riva, Kris Berry, Nana Adjoa and Pale Waves. Please, check them out and enjoy their talent!
Additionally, I compiled my Werner’s Weekly playlist for you, featuring a personal selection of last week’s best new music. Every track comes with additional information, which you will find by clicking the links below. You can listen to all seven tracks in this compact, alphabetically sorted chart through the Werner’s Weekly player in the sidebar.
If you like what you hear, follow my playlists, and I’ll keep you updated on new music as soon as it’s released.

European Border Breakers Chart 24 February 2017
Each Friday new European Border Breakers Charts are published. These charts show which emerging European bands are getting airplay outside their home countries, and where in Europe this free publicity takes place. Very interesting information for artists and fans, but also for managements, media, bookers and so on.
This week the EBBChart has a new number one, but with the smallest of margins. So don’t be surprised if things look differently next week. But that’s what charts are all about, aren’t they?
As always there is plenty of new blood in the charts. Four out of the fifteen (re)entries are first time visitors: Anne-Marie (Ciao Adios, #54; pictured), Off Bloom (Falcon Eye, #70), Rhys (Last Dance, #92) and Pixx (I Bow Down, #93).
My personal recommendations among the re-entries include Fil Bo Riva (Franzis, #88), Aston Merrygold (Get Stupid, #94) and Orange Skyline (Sound And Fury, #96). Check them out!
For the complete chart, click the ‘EBBChart’ tab at the top of this blog (loading of the PDF may take a little while). For more rankings (like the Bubbling Under, which ranks the tracks that are on their way to the Top 100), please visit www.europeanborderbreakerscharts.eu.
Carte Blanche Top 2016
Is there a better way to introduce myself and this new music blog than via a year-end chart? Last year in my Carte Blanche radio show I played over 800 new tracks, all of which you can find in this 2016 container playlist (subject to availability). Only 100 of them made it to the Carte Blanche Top 2016.
Some random statistics:
- After the usual suspects – Great-Britain (34) and United States (19) – the Netherlands deliver most entries (9), followed by Sweden (8), Belgium (6), Australia (5), Norway and France (4 each)
- 42% of all lead vocals are sung by women, which is unique compared to other radio stations
- There are more rock tracks in (the upper regions of) the Carte Blanche Top 2016 than in your average year-end chart
- The same goes for acts that were already successful 10, 20, even 30 years ago, proving they are still relevant today
If you want, you can listen to my radio show (in Dutch) containing the Top 30 of my year-end chart. Meanwhile you can browse through the complete list below. Enjoy!
