Giant Rooks – Wild Stare
One of the very first recommendations on this blog was for New Estate by Giant Rooks. This was the title track of their second EP. Since then, the German indie band â whose members are all only in their early 20âs â played a lot of festivals, but they didnât release any new music. Until nowâŚ
Wild Stare is the bandâs new single. A catchy song, tightly built around Frederik Rabeâs characteristic voice. A song that will certainly do well during their âWild Stare Tourâ, which will bring them to Great-Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Germany in April and May 2019. Around that time, theyâll also release their debut album.
Giant Rooksâs musical influences give away what you may expect: timeless British and American alternative pop, a hint of folk, a touch of electronics, driving rhythms and catchy vocal lines.

Giant Rooks – New Estate
New music from Germany, where Giant Rooks are quickly making inroads. The band consists of four guys from the town of Hamm, who just finished school. They only came together in 2014 and started making art pop, as they call it, delivering their first EP The Times Are Bursting The Lines at the end of 2015. The fairy-like track SmĂĽland in particular gained them a large audience, as you will see if you attend their gig at Eurosonic Noorderslag next week.
One week later, on 20 January, they release their second EP New Estate (digitally as well as on vinyl). The title track is out now as a warming-up.

Your âAll-Timeâ Favourites (2017-2022)
The last six years, starting in 2017, I posted 10 musical recommendations per week on this blog. A total of well over 3.000 tracks, mostly by upcoming â often female (fronted) – artists from all over the world. As I explained yesterday, Carte Blanche Music is entering a new era. One in which Iâll focus my efforts on my constantly updated Spotify playlist.
For sure, that doesnât mean the blog is closing down. Itâll continue to be the home of my âbest ofâ collection (Wernerâs Weekly) on Monday mornings (CET) and my favourite new track (the Carte Blanche Music Wildcard), every Wednesday morning.
