Giant Rooks – Wild Stare
One of the very first recommendations on this blog was for New Estate by Giant Rooks. This was the title track of their second EP. Since then, the German indie band – whose members are all only in their early 20‘s – played a lot of festivals, but they didn’t release any new music. Until now…
Wild Stare is the band’s new single. A catchy song, tightly built around Frederik Rabe’s characteristic voice. A song that will certainly do well during their ‘Wild Stare Tour’, which will bring them to Great-Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Germany in April and May 2019. Around that time, they’ll also release their debut album.
Giant Rooks’s musical influences give away what you may expect: timeless British and American alternative pop, a hint of folk, a touch of electronics, driving rhythms and catchy vocal lines.

Giant Rooks – New Estate
New music from Germany, where Giant Rooks are quickly making inroads. The band consists of four guys from the town of Hamm, who just finished school. They only came together in 2014 and started making art pop, as they call it, delivering their first EP The Times Are Bursting The Lines at the end of 2015. The fairy-like track Småland in particular gained them a large audience, as you will see if you attend their gig at Eurosonic Noorderslag next week.
One week later, on 20 January, they release their second EP New Estate (digitally as well as on vinyl). The title track is out now as a warming-up.

Your ‘All-Time’ Favourites (2017-2022)
The last six years, starting in 2017, I posted 10 musical recommendations per week on this blog. A total of well over 3.000 tracks, mostly by upcoming – often female (fronted) – artists from all over the world. As I explained yesterday, Carte Blanche Music is entering a new era. One in which I’ll focus my efforts on my constantly updated Spotify playlist.
For sure, that doesn’t mean the blog is closing down. It’ll continue to be the home of my ‘best of’ collection (Werner’s Weekly) on Monday mornings (CET) and my favourite new track (the Carte Blanche Music Wildcard), every Wednesday morning. Also, I’ll post the latest additions to my playlist on Saturdays. For updates, follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
