Wildcard (week 47):
Little Green – Thank You For That
Amy Nelson is the young woman behind Little Green, a talented, upcoming artist from the Blue Mountains, Australia. A prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, her music is as organic and untamed as the world that shaped her. ‘70s and ‘80s music is a large part of that world, and a huge inspiration. ‘She fuses the introspective depth of Joni Mitchell with the raw defiance of the Divinyls, creating a sound that is both brave and delicate’, according to her bio. With this sound, she’s carving out a unique space in the singer-songwriter-pop genre.
Since making her debut less than five years ago, Little Green made five EPs and a full album. Her upcoming sophomore long-player, set for release in 2025, promises to push boundaries while staying true to her quirky, authentic roots. It’ll see her delving deeper into themes of self-discovery and emotional healing.
Thank You For That is the first single off this second album. It’s a bold exploration of generational trauma and how childhood experiences shape the way we love and connect as adults. Or in short: it deals with the love and hurt we experience as kids. This contrast is underlined by alternating sweet verses, graced with brushes and a slide guitar, with fierce choruses that have full-on drums and bursts of guitar.
Little Green co-wrote the track with producer Randy Belculfine and Savannah Sanabia during a writing trip to LA. It blends heartfelt lyricism with a newfound edge, offering a raw glimpse into her healing journey.
Thank You For That by Little Green is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. It will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for an entire week.

Lou Ella & Shae Brock – Snake In The Garden
Making timeless music is a real craft. Fleetwood Mac is one of those bands that know the drill. No wonder many contemporary artists are fans. Acts like Haim, Little Green Cars, Lissie, Liv and many others don’t exactly make a secret of this fascination. We can now add a new act to that list.
Lou Ella & Shae Brock are two Los Angeles-based artists, who met online. They co-wrote their occasional collaboration Snake In The Garden with Mike Kamerman from Smallpools, who produced it as well. This resulted in a smooth and (radio) friendly indie-pop tune.
Lyrically, things are a little harsher though. Snake In The Garden talks about betrayal, knowing who your enemies are and growing. Lou Ella explains: “Don’t always trust people who come into your life even if all seems ok. Whether it’s romance or friendship, we’ve all been betrayed or hurt by someone we’ve trusted. You come out stronger but it still hurts.”
