The Sherlocks – Was It Really Worth It?
What do ABC, Arctic Monkeys, Paul Carrack, Joe Cocker, The Human League, Iron Maiden, The Last Shadow Puppets, Moloko, Pulp and many other artists have in common? They’re all from Sheffield. And now we can also add The Sherlocks to that list.
After building up a great live reputation they have now reached the point of a potential full-blown breakthrough. This new single could do the trick. They wrote it years ago and it’s been on their set lists ever since. This recorded version sounds like a hit to me. At least, this high energy pop rock song could do as well on the radio as it has already proven to do live.

Wildcard (week 18):
Youth Killed It – Up All Night
Youth Killed It is a British quartet that was formed in early 2016 in Norwich. It currently consists of Jack Murphy, Danny de Ara Torres, Joel Mullin and Paul Gaul. The band has been making their mark on the UK music scene with energetic live performances. They’ve played with The Kooks, The Snuts, The Sherlocks, DMA’s and The Pigeon Detectives. Also, they appeared at Isle Of White Festival and The Great Escape.
After releasing their first two albums in 2017 and 2018, they’ve concentrated on putting out stand-alone tracks. For this year, they’ve lined up at least four new songs. ‘Punchy and relatable tracks that delve into many real-life situations’, according to the band. And ‘some of the best music they have ever created’, obviously…
Fusing indie rock and rap, Up All Night is the first of this new batch. With its blend of infectious riffs, sharp wit, and undeniable charisma, it shows a band on the top of their game. Lyrically, it’s about bad habits and anxiety.
Singer Jack Murphy from Youth Killed It says of the track: “Up All Night is a song about how anxiety and bad habits creep up on you. Just when you think everything’s alright, you’re laying in your bed getting hit by a storm of thoughts. No matter how far you run or how many different things you incorporate into your life to distract yourself – nothing works, those long nights don’t go away. The song is a reminder to myself that you have to deal with problems, not bury them.”
Up All Night by Youth Killed It is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. It’ll keep you awake for a whole week, as it will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for seven full days.
