Zuco 103 – Aruenda
As early as 1999, Lilian Vieira (vocals), Stefan Schmid (keys) and Stefan Kruger (drums) formed their first project Rec.A. Soon after, they adopted the Zuco 103 moniker. Combining dance, dub and Brazil sounds, the band described their music as âBrazilectroâ. Soon after, this became an international household name and a scene with likeminded artists and deejays.
This year, Zuco 103 celebrated their 20th anniversary with the album Tripicalismo, containing old songs, new tracks and remixes. A completely new album is in the works already and is due for release in Spring 2020. Aruenda is the funky first single off it.

Wildcard (week 24):
Jonas Brøg (feat. Lilian Vieira) – I’m Your Nr. 1 [Brazilian Version]
Itâs heart-warming to see people claw their way back after hard times. Especially when theyâre your friends. Full disclosure: Jonas Brøg is a good friend of mine. A sweet and wonderful chap. Heâs had his share of hardship in the past years, but he fully embraced his music (and not in the least his family) to recover from the darkness.
Itâs been too long since we last spoke, but his music spoke for him. It was great to âhearâ him see the light at the end of the tunnel and walk towards it. If his new single is something to go by, he left the tunnel behind him. Iâm as happy for Jonas as the song is in itself.
Iâm Your Nr. 1 sounds like a ray of sunshine over a recently re-opened terrace. That already goes for the solo version, but the Brazilian Version is even more summer-y. It features additional vocals in Portuguese, and a guest appearance by Zuco 103 singer Lilian Vieira.
Jonas is throwing a party, and he invites you to come dance with him. Welcome back my friend, meet you there! Or here, for Iâm Your Nr. 1 by Jonas Brøg is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard and will feature here prominently for a whole week.

Carte Blanche Top 2016
Is there a better way to introduce myself and this new music blog than via a year-end chart? Last year in my Carte Blanche radio show I played over 800 new tracks, all of which you can find in this 2016 container playlist (subject to availability). Only 100 of them made it to the Carte Blanche Top 2016.
Some random statistics:
- After the usual suspects â Great-Britain (34) and United States (19) â the Netherlands deliver most entries (9), followed by Sweden (8), Belgium (6), Australia (5), Norway and France (4 each)
- 42% of all lead vocals are sung by women, which is unique compared to other radio stations
- There are more rock tracks in (the upper regions of) the Carte Blanche Top 2016 than in your average year-end chart
- The same goes for acts that were already successful 10, 20, even 30 years ago, proving they are still relevant today
If you want, you can listen to my radio show (in Dutch) containing the Top 30 of my year-end chart. Meanwhile you can browse through the complete list below. Enjoy!
