Wildcard (week 45):
Halie – Good Kids
Now that Sigrid and Aurora have been embraced by worldwide audiences, Norwayâs next superstar is ready for take-off. Hannah Emilie Grung is only 18 years old and off to a great future. Her 2018 single Youth already attracted over 1 million listeners on Spotify alone.
Halie used a short radio silence to finish school and write some new songs. The first of this bunch is out now. Good Kids sounds more mature and edgy than her earlier work. Imagine a combination of Charli XCX and early Lorde. Over a bed of thumping beats, Halie sings about everyday teen issues. A message that sticks, since the singer is only a teen herself.
Good Kids is the first single off her upcoming debut EP, and this weekâs Carte Blanche Music Wildcard!
In the Wildcards 2019 playlist you can find all of this yearâs Carte Blanche Music Wildcards so far.
Sløtface – Telepathetic
In 2017, Norway four-piece Sløtface released their debut album Try Not To Freak Out, which featured great singles like Magazine and Backyard. They just broke a two-year silence with a brand-new offering.
The bandâs brilliantly titled new single Telepathetic sees the band sharing production duties for the first time with Odd Martin SkĂĽlnes, who worked with fellow-Norwegians like Sigrid and Aurora before. The collaboration results in one of Sløtfaceâs most infectious, energetic and exciting songs so far.
Speaking about the new track, bassist Lasse Lokøy says: âIt was written in approximately 2 hours, at 11 in the evening, after a full day of recording. Most of us donât remember any of it because we were so tired.â Singer Haley Shea adds: âItâs pretty much just about feeling youâre in the wrong place, like a small town or a job you donât like, and thinking âthere must be something else.â
