Lime Cordiale – Screw Loose
Sydney-based brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach started Lime Cordiale in 2009. However, it took them 8 years to release their debut album. In that respect, their sophomore album 14 Steps To A Better You was a quickie. Itโs slated to come out on 10 July.
Screw Loose is the duoโs new single. A great track, that reminds me a little of Youโve Got Toโฆ by The Young Punx. The song was written by the brothers on a sleepless night in Los Angeles. โWe were laughing throughout the whole writing processโ, said Louis of the track. โThe great thing about working with our producer Dave Hammer is that he never says, โnoโ. Most of the time he just wants to take things further. The kookaburra laugh at the end of the song has been there from the start and we always thought someone would try to convince us to take it out. Itโs a pretty dominating sound and very Australian but it places the song in the environment that we want it to be in.โ

Buffalo Paradise – Buffalo Paradise
When I heard the intro of this single, I couldโve sworn it was a Bob Seger track. But is isnโt. This is the self-confident debut single of a Sydney-based five-piece named Buffalo Paradise. And just to make sure you donโt mistake them for another act, they named their first ever release after themselves. Or perhaps they named the band after the title of their introductory tune, but the result is the sameโฆ
When vocalist Lachie Pringle and guitarist Angus Armstrong met in late 2019, they discovered a common interest in the same bands. They were both inspired by fellow-Aussie acts like Spacey Jane, Lime Cordiale and Gang Of Youths (who are no complete strangers to Carte Blanche Music either). The two then recruited Angusโ brother, multi-instrumentalist Chris Armstrong, drummer Rory McDougall and bass player Naren โFunky Fingersโ Iyer, who completed the band.
As said, Buffalo Paradise is only their first single, and what a way to start a career! Itโs an upbeat feel-good song with driving rock rhythms, thumping basslines, soaring guitars and catchy vocals. Sure to get you in a good mood!

Fletcher Gull – City Is Busy
Itโs been 13 years since Melbourneโs Fletcher Gull started making music at the age of 8. In the meantime, he developed into a promising singer-songwriter. Iโm not the only one who noticed that, obviously. The credits of his new single City Is Busy read like a โwho is whoโ of Australian pop music. It was produced by Japanese Wallpaper (Mallrat, Wafia) and Dave Hammer (Lime Cordiale, Genesis Owusu), and mixed by Francois Tetaz (Gotye).
City Is Busy was crafted in isolation but destined for the stage. Itโs a sparkling song with โ80s New Romantic synths, a pulsating bass and big drums. Gull wrote the track about an encounter in the street: โShe talked to me for a while, telling me about how her life used to be great in the โ80s but now the city’s busy, cold and lonelyโ, he recounts. โShe said she used to have fun with her friends and motorbike around Australia, but now she can’t even sit on the street without getting fined or arrested. She was tired of everything, old with nothing to look forward to, just waiting to be crucified.โ
