Sir Notch feat. The Tuten Brothers – Summerâs Waiting For You
For quite some time, Sir Notchâs identity was something of a mystery. Pictures of a guy with a huge smiley popped over his head left a lot to guess. By now, we know Sir Notch is a project (and an anagram) of Christon. Once the frontman of popular Dutch band Rigby, he became truly successful (and happy) when he stepped out of the spotlight.
In 2021, his main focus is on writing and producing music for other artists or for film and TV. He already wrote over 500 songs for different artists in multiple genres. To mention but a few: Christon worked with Aloe Blacc, Ziggy Marley, Lost Frequencies, Hardwell, Dash Berlin, Sam Feldt and Mathieu Koss.
Besides that, he releases a song as Sir Notch from time to time. And not unsuccessfully. In 2018, he wrote and recorded the track Gimme That Sunshine for the summer campaign of juice brand Appelsientje. A year later, it won him a prestigious Buma Award for the best song in a commercial. My little write-up about the track is one of the all-time best read posts in the 5-year existence of Carte Blanche Music.
Will Christon pull it off again with his new single Summerâs Waiting For You? By the sound of it he just released his next hit. The track, which credits Nashville country singers The Tuten Brothers, is another easy on the ears dance-pop banger. Itâs a song of hope as well. âWe washed our hands and cancelled our plansâ, but hey, summerâs waiting for you.

Sir Notch & Tommy The Sound – Miami Vice
My recommendation of Sir Notchâs single Gimme That Sunshine was one of last yearâs best-read Carte Blanche Music posts, ending up third in Your Favourites (2018). So obviously, I wonât hold his new single back from you.
Christon Kloosterboer, under his Sir Notch alias, made the track with his youth pal, Thomas Onderwater (DJ Tommy The Sound). He wanted to make a contemporary disco tune, which I think they succeeded in doing. On Miami Vice, the two blend the funky guitar, synths and other sounds from the 80âs seamlessly with todayâs beats. Meanwhile, the lyrics play the nostalgia card. The songâs artwork underlines that feeling masterly, while the lyric video is a trip down memory lane as well.

Sir Notch – Gimme That Sunshine
Sir Notch is one of the aliases of Dutch singer-songwriter/producer Christon Kloosterboer, who has been working with Hardwell, Sam Feldt and Dash Berlin, and recently co-wrote Go For The Gold by Rudenko & Aloe Blacc.
After tracks like Please Donât Go and Depth Of My Mistakes (feat. Steffen Morrison), Gimme That Sunshine is his latest single under the Sir Notch guise, released on his own Exquisite label. An uplifting song with C2C-like scratching vocal effects, thatâs equal parts jazz, gospel and soul, and has a great summer vibe.
The tune was written to accompany a television commercial for juice brand Appelsientje, but the music alone is utterly refreshening as well. Taste it below via the streaming platform of your liking. Sure to put a smile(y) on your face!

Sir Notch – Please Donât Go (Sam Feldt Edit)
Sir Notch is a Dutch dance pop project surrounded by some mystery. It is unclear who is/are hiding behind that smiley face. As far as the summery new single Please Donât Go is concerned, the credits reveal that Sir Notch likes to work with talented people. The track was written by Christon Kloosterboer (who appeared on this blog before). He was also asked to sing the track. Furthermore, Sir Notch asked Sam Feldt to provide the radio edit. No wonder that radioâs response to the song is very positive.

Christon – The Story About A Boy Who Jumped Off A Cliff And Landed Softly
Itâs been some time since Christon released music under his own name. He hasnât exactly sat still though, writing and producing for other artists. International ones like Aloe Blacc, Ziggy Marley, Lost Frequencies and Mathieu Koss, as well as Dutch colleagues such as Guus Meeuwis, Ronnie Flex and Ellen ten Damme. Also, heâs currently presenting the TV programme âDe Troubadoursâ, in which he writes a song in a day with fellow artists, based on their personal stories. And then of course, there are his other musical projects with names like Sir Notch and North [Sic].
Christonâs new single is called The Story About A Boy Who Jumped Off A Cliff And Landed Softly. This stripped down track is the title song of âDe Jongen Die Van De Klif Sprong En Zacht Terechtkwamâ, the debut novel of Dutch journalist Stefan Raatgever. This book deals with the coming of age and coming out of a 19-year-old boy. The book cover contains a sticker with the Spotify code of the song.
Raatgever interviewed Christon multiple times during his career as part of the band XYP, as front man of Rigby and as a solo artist. He became a fan and asked the singer to write a theme song for his book. This challenge was accepted.
âTo me, Christon is one of the best songwriters in the Netherlandsâ, Raatgever explains. âHe often deploys his talents for others, but Iâm happy he sang this song himself. Iâm proud of the beautiful way he put the theme of my first book to music. Itâs a wonderful, Johnny Cash-like track.â
Christon, who already produced a soundtrack to his own debut thriller, âAdamâ, adds he tried to stick as much to Raatgeverâs story as possible. âI recorded this song in an intimate, acoustic setting. It incorporates both the struggle and the acceptance of the main character.â

Your favourites (May 2019)
When I recommended Roi, only the second single of French teen duo Videoclub, on 14 January, I couldnât have known this write-up – and the song, obviously – would become so much-loved for months to come. Since February, this track dominates the monthly âYour Favouritesâ round-up. And if that isnât special enough, the article has reached more people month over month ever since. In May, once again, the number of people that read this specific blog was 2œ times as high as in April. Congrats!
The all-female-fronted Top 3 also contains debut single Love Me Long of Dutch singer Narda and last yearâs Waste My Air by Sophie & The Giants. Talking about âall-femaleâ: Belgian/French project Gemmeâs cover of Sweet Harmony by The Beloved enters Your Favourites at #5.
Sir Notch profits of receiving an important Dutch advertising prize for the use of Gimme That Sunshine in a commercial for fruit drink Appelsientje. This news keeps the song, released in August 2018, comfortably in the Top 10 of most-read recommendations in May.
The full list is below. All of these tracks, and over 450 more, are in my continuously updated 2019 container playlist Carte Blanche Music.
Your favourites (April 2019)
Iâm not sure why, but April is always a good month for Carte Blanche Music. Last month was this blogâs best ever in terms of both visitors and pageviews. Thanks a lot, I hope you found what you were looking for, or even better, I hope youâve discovered songs and artists you didnât already know!
One of the big drivers of last monthâs numbers was French duo Videoclub. To be more precise, these youngsters have been dominating the Carte Blanche Music statistics ever since I wrote about their single Roi on 14 January. They dominated the results to such extent, that I started to doubt, to be honest. Was my recommendation targeted by a bot, pumping up the figures? Or was there another suspicious pattern to be found? However, after diving deep in Google Analytics, I must conclude Videoclub are really that popular. Next to direct referrals via Facebook and Twitter, most of the hits are the result of organic searches. Examples of search terms are the names of the teens (AdĂšle Castillon and Matthieu Reynaud), but also âcarte blanche music franceâ and âvideoclub bandâ.
So, with a doubt-free mind and my hand on my heart, I can tell you my review of Videoclubâs Roi was once again the best-read article on Carte Blanche Music last April. Other âgolden oldiesâ that still perform extremely well are Gimme That Sunshine by Sir Notch and Waste My Air by Sophie & The Giants. These appear to be evergreens. And in case youâre interested: the lead vocals in your Top 10 are equally split between female and male đ.
Enjoy your 10 favourites below. For further listening, check my continuously updated 2019 container playlist Carte Blanche Music, which is by now filled with over 22 hours of great recent music.
Your favourites (March 2019)
Your Favourites is a monthly chart, published on the first day of each new month, and looking back upon the most-read Carte Blanche Music recommendations in the month before. So, todayâs edition shows which of my blogs received the most eyeballs in March.
The latest data, where IP addresses are counted only once, expose a rather unique phenomenon: ever since 14 January, when I wrote about Videoclubâs single Roi (only the young French duoâs second outing), it has been a vast favourite of yours. It appeared in the Top 10 of most-loved blogs in January, topped the February listing, and was still the most-read recommendation last month. And to make it even better, I can reveal itâs the best-loved song on the Carte Blanche Music blog since I started it, in January 2017. If you havenât heard the track yet, simply click the link below. Obviously, the same goes for the other tracks in your list.
Another interesting track among Your Favourites of March is Gimme That Sunshine by Sir Notch. Released in August 2018, this looks set to become an all-time summer anthem, which keeps popping up in your monthly charts. After re-entering in February, it jumped back into the Top 3 over March. Great thinking to give this hit a title that appears to be suitable both in sunny periods and in periods that lack sunshine.
