The Reytons – Broke Boy’s Cartel
The Reytons don’t waste any time. Hot on the heels of their Carte Blanche Music Wildcard Jealous Type, the Yorkshire quartet put out their fourth EP May Seriously Harm You And Others Around You. A classic example of ‘all killers, no fillers’, it contains three previously released tracks and three new ones.
One of the latter tunes is the new focus track. Broke Boy’s Cartel is another up-tempo rock song with ‘banger’ written all over it. Finishing in less than three minutes, it’s a burst of energy. Sounds like it’s made for live arenas, but in the meantime, it’s hopeful to see radio stations across the UK are supporting the EP.
The band’s loyal fans show their commitment as well. Thanks to their enthusiasm, the EP entered the UK Album Top 40. An unprecedented achievement for a 6-track record (but a well-deserved one)!

Wildcard (week 5):
The Reytons – Jealous Type
Are you a Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not-era Arctic Monkeys fan? Then you need to get to know The Reytons. This rising Yorkshire quartet has the same unashamedly anthemic rock ethic that Arctic Monkeys came to the scene with.
At the start of their career, in 2017/8, The Reytons released three EP’s in quick succession. Since then, they put out seven singles, Jealous Type being the latest. It kicks off with strong guitar riffs which are a perfect launch pad for lead singer Johnny Yerrell’s strong lyrics. There’s a raw element to the production that gives the song a certain edge. In that respect, it recalls the colossal live shows that gained The Reytons a large following. It’s impressive to hear how the band reproduce that sound in the studio.
Jealous Type precedes a new EP, titled May Seriously Harm You And Others Around You, due out later in February.
This whole week, The Reytons’ Jealous Type will feature prominently at the top of this blog as the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard!

Your ‘All-Time’ Favourites (2017-2022)
The last six years, starting in 2017, I posted 10 musical recommendations per week on this blog. A total of well over 3.000 tracks, mostly by upcoming – often female (fronted) – artists from all over the world. As I explained yesterday, Carte Blanche Music is entering a new era. One in which I’ll focus my efforts on my constantly updated Spotify playlist.
For sure, that doesn’t mean the blog is closing down. It’ll continue to be the home of my ‘best of’ collection (Werner’s Weekly) on Monday mornings (CET) and my favourite new track (the Carte Blanche Music Wildcard), every Wednesday morning. Also, I’ll post the latest additions to my playlist on Saturdays. For updates, follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
No better way to round up the last six years than by publishing the Your ‘All-Time’ Favourites, a chart compiling the 500 most popular (as in best-read) Carte Blanche Music recommendations from 2017 to 2022. You’ll find the Top 25 below, but click through for the full list. My original recommendations are behind the links. If you’re an artist, don’t be shy and search (Ctrl+F) to find out if you made the list. You might be surprised…
Enjoy and thanks for joining the ride so far. Follow the Carte Blanche Music playlist (click ‘♥’ in Spotify) for many more recommendations to come!
