Buika – Deadbeat
María Concepción Balboa Buika uses her last name – pronounced as [bwee-ka] – as her stage name. Born in Mallorca, Spain as a daughter of African parents she’s been surrounded by multiple cultures throughout her life. This eclectic upbringing shaped Buika’s ability to make music without limitations. During her 15-year recording career, her albums flow seamlessly between pop, jazz, soul, reggae, afro beat, r&b and flamenco.
Just like in her music, Buika knows no boundaries when it comes to language or geography. She has collaborated with musicians and singers in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Portuguese, Iranian, Italian and Armenian.
Working on her ninth album, the singer-songwriter, producer, poet, photographer and business owner just released her great new single Deadbeat. Another eclectic piece of art.
