European Border Breakers Chart 24 February 2017
Each Friday new European Border Breakers Charts are published. These charts show which emerging European bands are getting airplay outside their home countries, and where in Europe this free publicity takes place. Very interesting information for artists and fans, but also for managements, media, bookers and so on.
This week the EBBChart has a new number one, but with the smallest of margins. So don’t be surprised if things look differently next week. But that’s what charts are all about, aren’t they?
As always there is plenty of new blood in the charts. Four out of the fifteen (re)entries are first time visitors: Anne-Marie (Ciao Adios, #54), Off Bloom (Falcon Eye, #70), Rhys (Last Dance, #92) and Pixx (I Bow Down, #93).
My personal recommendations among the re-entries include Fil Bo Riva (Franzis, #88), Aston Merrygold (Get Stupid, #94) and Orange Skyline (Sound And Fury, #96). Check them out!
For the complete chart, click the ‘EBBChart’ tab at the top of this blog (loading of the PDF may take a little while). For more rankings (like the Bubbling Under, which ranks the tracks that are on their way to the Top 100), please visit www.europeanborderbreakerscharts.eu.

European Border Breakers Chart 17 February 2017
The European Border Breakers Chart is the quickest way to get to know what talented European artists are successfully breaking borders across our continent. Following the chart throughout the year also enables you to predict next year’s European Border Breakers Awards winners, which is a nice game in itself.
Half of the 12 entries in this week’s EBBChart were never in the Top 100 before. Don’t Kill My Vibe, the debut single of emerging Norwegian pop singer Sigrid is the highest entry at #52. The track is popular on radio all over Scandinavia, but also in Germany, Spain, the UK and Ireland. More countries are set to follow.
The other entries are Arman Cekin feat. Paul Rey & Snoop Dogg (California Dreaming, #69), Liv Dawson (Searching, #86), Wincent Weiss (Feuerwerk, #87), Jain (Heads Up, #94) and Izzy Bizu (Give Me Love, #100).
A warm welcome back from my part to Thanks (feat. Sam Sparro) (Your Man, #77) and Zak Abel (Everybody Needs Love, #96).

European Border Breakers Chart 10 February 2017
Six of the 16(!) entries in this week’s European Border Breakers Chart have never been in the Top 100 before. The highest entry is Bad Sounds’ Wages. I’ll feature them here later, like I did earlier with Izzy Bizu’s Talking To You (pictured), that has finally been picked up by European radio stations and comes in at #69 this week.
In the Bubbling Under chart, which features tracks on their way to the Top 100, you’ll find EBBA winners Jain and Jaakko Eino Kalevi, among others.

European Border Breakers Chart 3 February 2017
In this week’s European Border Breakers Chart we see relatively many entries from the Lowlands: three out of 14. Most interesting about that, is that two out of these three (Van Echelpoel – Ziet Em Duun and Lil’ Kleine & Ronnie Flex – Drank & Drugs) are sung in their own language, a Belgian dialect and Dutch respectively. That’s extra interesting, as the EBBChart reflects airplay within Europe outside the home country of the artists (hence: ‘border breakers’). The other Benelux entry is Dutch band Orange Skyline with Sound And Fury.
For the 11 other (re)entries, coming from Sweden, the UK, France, Norway and Ireland, click the ‘EBBChart’ tab at the top of this blog (loading of the PDF may take a little while). For more charts, like the Bubbling Under (which ranks the tracks that are on their way to the Top 100) and brand new ETEP charts (which rank artists by the number of ETEP festivals they played last month), please visit www.europeanborderbreakerscharts.eu.

European Border Breakers Chart 27 January 2017
Funny to see that the Eurosonic Noorderslag showcase festival doesn’t only have an immediate effect on the European Border Breakers Chart (in the week right after), but also a delayed effect.
This week, two weeks after they played at the event, Léon and Youngr, as well as Filous and Namika (both of whom won an EBBA Award), (re-)enter the chart. And Amazons add a second track to the Top 100.
There are a total of 13 (re-)entries in the chart this week, the highest of which comes rushing in at #11. Curious for all 100 positions? Click the ‘EBBChart’ tab at the top of this blog (loading of the PDF may take a little while). European Border Breakers Chart 20 January 2017
As expected, the impact of the Eurosonic Noorderslag showcase festival in Groningen is visible in the European Border Breakers Charts. Performing acts like Alma (#8; pictured), Walking On Cars (#23), The Amazons (#25) and Her (#74) all see their songs rise in the charts. Declan McKenna, who was already present with Isombard (#46), enters at #78 with his follow-up The Kids Don’t Wanna Go Home.
In the Bubbling Under Chart Be Charlotte and Léon are popping up as well.
Another fun entry in the Top 100 is Your Man by Thanks (feat. Sam Sparro), that was featured here earlier.

European Border Breakers Chart 13 January 2017
This week the European Border Breakers Awards were handed out to the most successful debuting artists out of Europe. This is clearly reflected in this week’s European Border Breakers Charts. Dua Lipa, who wasn’t only the most successful new artist from the UK last year, but also received the Public Choice Award, enters the chart at an impressive #9 with her new single Thinking ‘bout You. It’s her fourth consecutive top 10 hit in the EBBChart. Meanwhile, her latest hit Blow Your Mind (Mwah) also boomerangs back into the top 10.
Elsewhere, the chart sees (re)entries by EBBA winners Filous and Jain, while tracks by Alan Walker, Walking On Cars and Namika are on their way up again.

European Border Breakers Chart 6 January 2017
From now on, each Friday I’ll publish the new European Border Breakers Chart on Carte Blanche Music. It is one mouse click away under the ‘EBBChart’ tab at the top of this blog, where you’ll find it in downloadable and printable PDF format.
Only debuting European artists can enter the European Border Breakers Chart, with releases that are not older than two years. The chart is based on airplay outside the artist’s home country by 50 tastemaker radio stations across 33 countries all over Europe. This makes the EBBC the quickest chart around and the best place to discover new talent.
This week’s chart counts no less than 17 (re)entries. That’s an extraordinary number, but not inexplicable. After the Christmas period, the jingle bells and year-end charts, radio makers are eager to catch up with new music.
Amidst re-entries by The Hunna, Her, Izzy Bizu, Vant, and EBBA winners Namika and Natalie La Rose among others, only three tracks are totally new to the chart.
Check which ones by hitting the ‘EBBChart’ tab at the top of this blog (loading may take a little while). For more charts, features and information, go to www.europeanborderbreakerscharts.eu, where you can listen to all tracks and share them as well!

Carte Blanche Top 2016
Is there a better way to introduce myself and this new music blog than via a year-end chart? Last year in my Carte Blanche radio show I played over 800 new tracks, all of which you can find in this 2016 container playlist (subject to availability). Only 100 of them made it to the Carte Blanche Top 2016.
Some random statistics:
- After the usual suspects – Great-Britain (34) and United States (19) – the Netherlands deliver most entries (9), followed by Sweden (8), Belgium (6), Australia (5), Norway and France (4 each)
- 42% of all lead vocals are sung by women, which is unique compared to other radio stations
- There are more rock tracks in (the upper regions of) the Carte Blanche Top 2016 than in your average year-end chart
- The same goes for acts that were already successful 10, 20, even 30 years ago, proving they are still relevant today
If you want, you can listen to my radio show (in Dutch) containing the Top 30 of my year-end chart. Meanwhile you can browse through the complete list below. Enjoy!
