Ferraro – Sugar Rush [2021 Remix]
Whatâs Ferraro? The plural form of Ferrari? âWith which one of our Ferraro will I drive to the supermarket this afternoon?â. Nope. Itâs an aptly named Toronto-based band, comprised of sibling trio Cosmo (guitar), Tally (bass) and Gianni Ferraro (drums). All three of them perform vocal duties as well. Recently signed by a major label, theyâre currently working on a 6-track EP, co-written and produced by alt-pop duo The Darcys.
Originally released in October 2020, they just re-released their single Sugar Rush. A new mix of the track, to be precise. Oddly, the 2021 version has been removed from the bandâs Spotify profile, but it can still be found on the platform via this link. As you can hear, Sugar Rush is an energetic, radio-friendly pop-rock song.

Awolnation feat. Alice Merton – The Best
Earlier this year, Awolnation released the single Mayday!!! Fiësta Fever. It featured Ima Robot and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros singer Alex Ebert. Apparently, the US band is still in duet mode. This time however, they go in full overdrive with an epic new release. Their new single The Best totally lives up to its title.
When first released in late 2019, The Best was an Awolnation-only production. That was enough for it to reach Top 5 positions in Billboards Alternative Songs Chart and Alternative Radio Chart. A brand-new version of the track is sure to take it even higher. The gorgeous and distinct vocals of upcoming German singer Alice Merton make The Best even better. A reworking and collaboration by the book, even though it came together while both parties were in self-isolation in different parts of the world.
The track is taken from Awolnationâs forthcoming album Angel Miners And The Lightning Riders, due for release on 24 April.

Zuzu – Get Off [2019 Version]
In 2016, I spent as much time looking for great new music as I do now. By then, however, I didnât post those songs on this blog, but I played them in my Carte Blanche radio show. Almost exactly three years ago, I discovered Zuzu, a singer-songwriter from Liverpool with a rough edge to her voice. I instantly liked her debut single Get Off, which she said was influenced by Pavement and Courtney Barnett.
She was quickly signed by Virgin/EMI, part of major record company Universal Music. They just released a new version of Get Off as Zuzuâs next single. By the sound of it, itâs clear there was more money available than the first time around. It all sounds much fresher and this mix leaves more room for all of the instruments. As if a blanket was pulled off of the song.
That doesnât mean the first version was bad though. Iâd still fall for it if it wouldnât have been remixed. Therefore, I think itâs a little bit daft that the original version has now been removed from streaming services, like it never existed. Because it did, and it still does đ. Great song, which should finally signal her break-through!

House Of Spirituals – Too Many Days [Ninja Mix]
House Of Spirituals are a rather mysterious London-based project, apparently featuring a British and a Spanish member. When they released their debut single Too Many Days at the end of 2015, it was immediately clear theyâre inspired by Alan Lomaxâs field recordings and have an obsession with âelectronic soul meets swap stompâ.
At the time, they explained in an interview the song was written by the band as a message of hope to themselves, having been in a desolate place. âWe had just been talking about the dark times we were going through. The room felt really heavy as it was one of those times when you donât have an answer to the situation youâre going through. Straight away I went over to the piano and the words âtoo many days, Iâve been downâ came straight out. Then the rest of the song carried on writing itself and got more positive. It became almost a âcall of armsâ for us to get up and fight our way out of the darkness.â
Three years later, the world has gotten to know artists like Hozier and Rag ânâ Bone Man, who operate in the same musical field as House Of Spirituals. A great moment to try and launch their career on a broader scale with this beefed-up version of the song that started it allâŠ

Ofenbach vs. Lack Of Afro (feat. Wax & Herbal T) – PARTY
When multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Adam Gibbons (a.k.a. Lack Of Afro) and twin brother rappers Wax & Herbal T released the original version of P.A.R.T.Y. in 2013, it already produced what the title promised. So how, do you think, would this track sound when remixed by French DJ duo Ofenbach, best-known for their pan-European hit Be Mine? Indeed, like a PARTY in overdrive!

Portugal. The Man – Feel It Still (âWeird Alâ Yankovic Remix)
Usually, Iâm not too fond of remixes. At the same time, Iâm a huge fan of âWeird Alâ Yankovicâs, especially of his often hilarious polkas. And once again, âWeird Alâ proves to be the exception to the rule. I adore this âpolkafiedâ version of Portugal. The Manâs Feel It Still.
Just to remind you, the original version stands as the biggest rock crossover hit since Gotyeâs Somebody That I Used To Know (both of which are far from rock hits in my book, by the way). It went on to break the record for most weeks at #1 on Billboardâs Alternative Songs chart.
Iâm looking forward to see where Yankovicâs remix will bring it ?

The Chordaes – Something New (Remix)
Late last year, native New York melodic rock band The Chordaes put out their EP In Itinere. The first single What Do You Want From Me was a great, Beatlesque pop gem, that easily made it onto my Carte Blanche Music playlist. Now, theyâre releasing a new mix of EP track Something New. A song that grows on me.
As you can hear, The Chordaesâ sound is a sweet blend of classic rock and power pop. Genres that were popular in the 1990s as well. To get to know the band better, online music magazine Popdust asked them to compile their playlist of 90âs heroes. And boy, what a great job they did!
