Chvrches – Get Out
In 2012, Scottish electro pop band Chvrches came to the scene with irresistible tunes like Lies and The Mother We Share, followed by their debut album The Bones Of What We Believe, which also featured great tracks like We Sink and Tether. The follow-up, Every Open Eye, was an equally strong set of songs, including gems like Keep You On My Side, Empty Threat, and Bury It (later re-recorded as a duet with Paramore’s Hayley Williams). On top of that, the three-piece proved very capable of translating their studio work to the stage.
Last December, front woman Lauren Mayberry started teasing new material. The band is working on a third album, apparently to be called Love Is Dead. It is being produced by Greg Kurstin (of Sia, Adele and P!nk fame) and, according to Mayberry, contains “the most pop stuff we’ve done, but the most aggressive and vulnerable at the same time.”
A first taste of the album is out now. First single Get Out indeed sounds a little bit more polished than Chvrches’ earlier output, but not light years away from the sound we got to like. Mayberry’s voice is still lovely and unique and the synths are as ‘synthy’ as ever. Good to have them back!
