Donna Missal is an American singer-songwriter from New Jersey, with music in her DNA. Her grandmother was a songwriter in the 1940s, and her father was a musician in the 1980s. With her self-assured attitude and great voice, Missal is equal parts rock star and soul singer. She’s currently recording the follow-up to her 2018 debut album This Time. That sophomore record will be out later this year.

Meanwhile, the country-flavoured track Hurt By You is the long-player’s official first single. It’s an unconventional break-up song that sidesteps bitterness and celebrates the brighter side of splitting up. “Letting someone go doesn’t have to signify loss and pain exclusively”, says Donna Missal. “There can be wide open space on the other side of that to feel autonomy, freedom, and room to grow. It doesn’t have to suck! And you don’t have to be hurt by change.”
