Eskobar – Behind The Sun

Who thought Eskobar were a band from the start of this century, is proven wrong. The Swedish band still exists, and appears to have started their ‘chapter 2’. At least, that’s the title of their upcoming album. Their seventh, already. After releasing their first five albums with an interval of two years each, #6 took them eight years to make. Luckily, Chapter 2 will appear ‘only’ four years after their latest long-player.

By the sound of the singles so far, Eskobar found inspiration in the early ‘90s of the last century. I heard echoes of PM Dawn in When Your Heroes Fall, and when listening to Behind The Sun, it’s impossible not to think of The Stone Roses. Our Swedish friends are fully aware of that, by the way, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. By the way: I also love how the first notes sound like The Art Of Noise’s Paranoimia.

Reviving the Madchester sound, Behind The Sun is an epic affair with a chorus that goes into larger-than-life mode. As far as Chapter 2 is concerned: bring it on!
