European Border Breakers Chart 17 March 2017
The EBBCharts have a new #1, although it was a close call: Jax Jones feat. Raye ascend the throne, but Zayn & Taylor Swiftโs audience was only 1% smaller last week. The gap with #3 – Alan Walker – is such, that he currently doesnโt impose a real threat.
Further down the chart, 16 entries have an ambition to get to pole position one day. Five of those never showed up before in this listing of European talent crossing borders on radio stations throughout Europe.
One of the most curious projects enters at #84 this week. The Rockinโ 1000 (pictured), described as โthe biggest band on earthโ, are a group of โ as the name suggests โ over a thousand musicians from mainly Italy (and a few from other countries such as Canada, Mexico, England, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia and Germany). They were originally scheduled to do one concert together, in July 2015, as a stunt to get Foo Fighters to visit their hometown of Cesena, Italy. This was a success in two ways: Foo Fighters indeed did a concert in Cesena in October 2015 and the Rockinโ 1000 continued to do their own shows as well. Now, after bubbling under the chart for a long time, at last their version of Nirvanaโs Smells Like Teen Spirit enters, thanks to airplay in Spain.
