Everyone You Know – Higher
Do you like the way Kasabian combine the sounds of The Chemical Brothers and Oasis, and are you tired of waiting for them to resurface? Then you might consider for Everyone You Know to become your next favourite band.
EYK are British brothers Rhys and Harvey Kirkby. They released numerous singles and two EP’s in the past years. Now, they’re ready to put out a 12-track mixtape, Just For The Times, next June. Higher is the duo’s new single. A guitar-heavy affair with a bridge that’s carried by a good old house piano. What’s not to like about that?
Lyrically, it name-drops quite some musical heroes, most of them sadly deceased. Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Patrick Swayze, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Lennon & McCartney, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Aretha Franklin and even The Police’s Roxanne all make an appearance.
If you’re lucky enough to have been to an EYK concert (ages ago), you may know this tune already. They’ve been playing it live for 18 months to see it grow into a fan favourite. Sounds like a great radio track as well, if the stations worth their salt.
