Madame Monsieur – Mercy
Madame Monsieur is a French duo that was formed in 2013 by vocalist Émilie Satt and producer Jean-Karl Lucas. Satt achieved some fame in 2015 as the (uncredited) featured singer on Hooverphonic’s hit single Badaboum. That same year, Madame Monsieur released their first single You Make Me Smile, followed in 2016 by five other tracks, that would eventually all appear on the pair’s debut album Tandem.
But 2018 will be the year of their break-through, as Madame Monsieur will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal, with the song Mercy. Who understands French will hear their contribution is about the refugee issue; who doesn’t, will hear a chorus that’s easy enough to sing along to. Predicting if it will be a success at ESC requires more in-depth knowledge of that event, but it sure is a good pop song that deserves to be a hit throughout Europe.
