Mike Edel – Hello Universe
Canadian-born Mike Edel recently moved to Seattle, and it looks like he embraced the change. His new single’s title Hello Universe speaks for itself, as does the lyric ‘I don’t really feel the doubt, I just wanna sing it loud’.
The song was co-written with Parker Bossley and mixed by Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire, The National). The sessions resulted in a catchy and energetic indie-pop track. It’s a mid-tempo summer anthem full of melodic hooks and power chords. Its message is just as powerful: it invites us to turn our backs to the negative and embrace our individual paths.
The accompanying music video sees Edel traveling through the vibrant scenes of Morocco. He carries a boombox with Hello Universe on it, which he plays to everyone he encounters. The video details their responses, and is full of appreciation and wonder. Edel and filmmaker Jordan Clarke barely made it home. They travelled back only one day before Europe was totally shot down because of the pandemic.
