Milo – What’s The Matter
Milo are a young Dutch band, that got its name from singer/guitarist Milo Groenhuijzen. Max Kerkhof (keyboards), Wouter Hidding (bass) and Sjoerd de Vries (drums) round out the quartet. They combine influences of bands like Radiohead, Oasis, Coldplay and Crowded House into a sound of their own. Their debut album Bright Flowers Of Indigo came out last November, in the middle of the pandemic. The band announced one concert to promote the release, but thanks to their fans’ enthusiasm, they eventually played two sold-out shows.
With enough free time on their hands, Milo spent the last months writing and recording new material. But suddenly, they stumbled upon this track that didn’t make it onto their album. The song, What’s The Matter, even had a music video to go with it. The band felt as if they had found a hidden treasure, and that’s exactly what it sounds like.
Therefore, the band decided to give the track the proper release it deserves, as a ‘thank you’ to their fans. What’s The Matter opens with the exact same line as Lovesong by The Cure: ‘Whenever I’m alone with you’. What follows, however, is an up-tempo, radio-friendly song about that sinister feeling of being spied upon while walking home alone at night.
