Carte Blanche Music Top 2017
Iâll publish your choice (the most read Carte Blanche Music posts of the year) here tomorrow. An absolutely great and totally surprising list. But below you can find my selection of the best music that came out in 2017.
Narrowing down, thatâs what making a year-end chart is about⊠In the past year, I brought 940 great new tracks to your attention via my container playlist Carte Blanche Music, dedicated 650 blog posts to providing you with background info, selected 289 of them honourably for my âbest of the bestâ playlist  Wernerâs Weekly and chose one song each week to be placed in the spotlights on the blog: the Carte Blanche Music Wildcard.
Now, the time has come to put all of that information together, and serve you with my very personal, now and then arbitrary, but over-all rather brilliant ? final playlist of the year: the Carte Blanche Music Top 2017.
Itâs a Top 100. With 100 different artists in it. Needless to say it was a struggle. Not even all the Wildcards made this final list and some artists made more than one great song in the past year. Still, I only chose one. I wonât bother you with many statistics, but Iâm delighted to say that 43% of the songs feature female lead vocals. I really hope this will become a trend in 2018 on radio and streaming playlists alike.
Because all 100 songs are dear to me, they are alphabetically ordered. Of course, you can listen to the Carte Blanche Music Top 2017 on Spotify, and the links below correspond with my original recommendations. Believe me, it doesnât get better than this (play)list đ . Enjoy!
Wernerâs Weekly (week 50)
The year may slowly come to an end, the stream of great new music certainly doesnât!
Throughout the year Iâve gradually been filling my 2017 container playlist Carte Blanche Music with the best just-released tracks, and last week I had no problem adding another bunch of new songs worthy of your undivided attention. In the past seven days only, Belle & Sebastian, Haerts, Manic Street Preachers, Turin Brakes and The Wombats were among the ones who joined the ever growing club of top tunes this year produced so far. Iâm already looking forward to the last two weeks, and beyond!
But first: the crĂšme de la crĂšme of new releases, combined in Wernerâs Weekly. The tracks are below, the actual songs are in the Wernerâs Weekly player in the sidebar and more info is behind each link. In less than 25 minutes youâll be completely up to date!
Wernerâs Weekly (week 49)
Radio stations may slowly be starting to look back upon the past musical year, and in some cases even be increasing the number of Christmas songs on their playlist, but there is still a lot of great new music coming out. And believe me, not only ballads.
How about the tracks by Nemesea, Shaka Ponk and The Go! Team, that I added to my 2017 container playlist Carte Blanche Music last week?
Of course, thatâs not all. Below, youâll find my favourites among the recommendations I did here in the past seven days. Havenât heard them the first time around? Theyâre all in the Wernerâs Weekly player in the side bar. More information about each track is available via the links. Enjoy!
- Noel Gallagherâs High Flying Birds – Itâs A Beautiful World (Wildcard this week)
- The Bamboos (feat. Montaigne) – Iâll Make You Happy (Wildcard last week)
- Calogero – La Vraie Vie
- HollySiz – Rather Than Talking
- Miss Li – Beautiful
- Sara Hartman – Buttons
Do you like them as well? Or did I miss something? Your tips are always welcome in the comments!
Wernerâs Weekly (week 48)
While daily updating my Carte Blanche Music container playlist (with The Academic, Dua Lipa, Isaac Gracie, Saint Raymond, Shaka Ponk, Toto a.o., last week), and daily recommending you great new music via this blog, thereâs only one moment in the week that I present you with the very best tracks of the past seven daysâŠ
Each Monday morning (European time) I give you Wernerâs Weekly. A shortlist of highlights for your discovering and listening pleasure, brought together in the compact Wernerâs Weekly playlist (see the player in the sidebar). Itâs also listed alphabetically below and each link provides you with more information. If thereâs anything more I can do to make your life easier, please tell me⊠đ . For now: enjoy!
Liam Gallagher – Wall Of Glass
After Noel Gallagher left Oasis in 2009 and formed Noel Gallagherâs High Flying Birds, the remaining Oasis members continued as Beady Eye. Although the former added more subtlety to their productions (to my liking), Beady Eye sure came up with some decent songs. The Roller, Flick Of The Finger and Shine A Light, for instance.
In 2014, Beady Eye disbanded as well. Shortly after, Liam Gallagher indicated he didnât have plans to pursue a solo career. He did so in a delicate tweet, reading âSolo record are you fucking tripping dickhead im not a cunt LG X.â Â When it became clear he was going to release solo material, he referenced that tweet in a follow-up message, stating âItâs official I’m a cunt LG x.â
Liamâs first official single under his own name is Wall Of Glass, and itâs great.
