Palace Winter – Empire
In Spring 2013, Danish producer and classically trained pianist Caspar Hesselager was the support act of The Rumour Said Fire, the band where Australian Carl Coleman played synths. The two clicked and decide to form a new band: Palace Winter.
In March 2014, they started recording and experimenting together, with a goal to fuse each other’s sounds; Hesselager’s poppy playfulness and wide-screen production vs. Coleman’s traditional singer-songwriter background and atmospheric vocals.
If first single Take Shelter and follow-up Empire are anything to go by, they accomplished this mission on their second album Nowadays, that will come out 4 May. Empire has a melody and an atmosphere that’s distantly related to Blue Öyster Cult’s (Don’t Fear) The Reaper.
