Icarus – Love Has Come Around
Icarus is the stage name of brothers Ian and Tom Griffiths, a Bristol-based DJ/producers duo. Both of them played in bands before; Ian on guitar, Tom on bass.
The two are currently working on their next EP, In The Dark, to be released in the Spring. Its first single, Love Has Come Around, is an infectious disco stomper, which lyrically represents the excitement of meeting and connecting with someone new. The track is built around a sample from the same-titled Donald Byrd track, that dates back to 1981.

Raf Rundell feat. Showboy – Sweet Cheeks
Raf Rundell is one half of dance duo The 2 Bears. In 2016, he released his debut mini album The Adventures Of Selfie Boy Part 1 to a very positive reception. This new single is a taster for his first full length album Stop Lying, scheduled for release on 2 March. Sweet Cheeks is an uplifting slice of funky pop music, that could have been a companion piece to the Freestylers’ Push Up. Destined to make your day!

Peggy Gou – It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)
Korean producer Peggy Gou currently operates from Berlin. There, she works on her next EP Once, and It Makes You Forget is the first single off it. It’s the first time she ever sung on a record, which she does in her native language. The laid-back, understated way she sings forms a great part of the song’s appeal.
The track has a 90’s house vibe, with influences from disco, electro and even acid. Musically, the track has the same amount of nonchalance as the vocal parts. A winning combination.

Clara Luciani – La Grenade
Clara Luciani is an upcoming French singer. We first got to know her through her contributions to Nekfeu’s album Cyborg and the Deluxe Edition of Calogero’s Liberté Chérie, as well as her first EP Monstre D’amour, that she released last year.
Now, here’s Clara Luciani’s new single. If you like groovy bass lines and catchy melodies, this one’s for you. Based on her music so far, I’m very much looking forward to her debut album, due out in April!

L’Impératrice – Matahari
In a way, French music is always surrounded by an sense of sensuality. Whether it’s the melancholy whispering, even moaning singing technique of many a chanteuse, or the sultry, groovy, tropical disco like instrumentation, in French music passion and desire are never far away. Take L’Impératrice (French for ‘the empress’), for example…
L’Impératrice is a six-piece band from Paris (where else? ). Since 2012, they released four EP’s and a handful of stand-alone singles. Only 2 March their debut album Matahari will come out. The title track is the new single, and with a subject like that, it can only be a sensual track, can it? Well… it is!

The best of last week’s recommendations are collected in Werner’s Weekly, your alphabetically ordered compass to the music that matters. Listen to all the tracks through the Werner’s Weekly player in the sidebar and read more about each song by clicking the links below:

Wildcard (week 3):
Paloma Faith – ‘til I’m Done
When Paloma Faith released her debut single Stone Cold Sober in 2009, it was immediately clear she was an incredible talent. But despite scoring hits in recent years like Can’t Rely On You (co-written by Pharrell Williams) and Only Love Can Hurt Like This, I was surprised to find out her fourth album The Architect was only her first to hit number one in her home country Great Britain.
The album already produced the singles Crybaby and Guilty, but I bet she’s third time lucky. Paloma Faith’s new single ‘til I’m Done sounds like it could do well everywhere: on the radio, in your car, on the dance floor and in the charts. This gospel disco stomper, that sneakily references Donna Summer’s (well, okay, Donna Summer’s version of Barry Manilow’s) Could It Be Magic, deserves to be a hit!
This week, Carte Blanche Music is the first place where ‘til I’m Done scores big. It features here prominently as the new Wildcard (all of which you can find in the Wildcards 2018 playlist).
