Raye – Love Of Your Life
This week, Raye will release her EP Euphoric Sad Songs, a seven-track music project exploring the cycle of grief. Love Of Your Life is the embodiment of the final stage of grief. It represents coming to terms with the trauma and hurt youâve experienced, and realising that you feel ready to turn a negative into a positive and grow through it.
True to the EP title, itâs a euphoric tune, and true to its theme, itâs as uplifting as can be. This should be the song that propels Rayeâs solo career into true stardom.
If you like Dua Lipaâs latest tunes or Kylieâs nu-disco sound, Raye could be the next Love Of Your LifeâŚ

Lime – Fever
Coming together from across the UK, Lime are currently a Brighton-based band. Brighton is really one of the hotspots for great new British music at the moment. Singer Chloe Howard, guitarist Leila Deeley, bassist Tippi Morgan and drummer Annabel Whittle first met at 16 at music college. They became best pals pretty quick, and the music then naturally followed when hanging out. The girls cite Courtney Barnett, FEET, Squid and Sports Team as some of their influences.
Fever is only their second single. It follows Surf N Turf, which I loved a well. Just like their debut single, Fever crams several genres in a 3-minute song. With more than just a little nod to the â80s, itâs equal parts funk, pop, disco and rock. A great cocktail that begs for more!

Genes – Super Single
In recent times, the funky, slapping bass made its full return in pop music. Weâve got the comeback of â80s influenced disco to thank for that. As you couldâve guessed, hereâs another one!
If youâre into the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen and Dagny, do yourself the favour to listen to Genes as well. Only four singles into her career, she already sounds like one of the revelations of Australian pop. Her fourth track so far is easily her best. Itâs a Super Single. But thatâs not what the song is about.
She says: âItâs fun, itâs not taking itself seriously, and itâs carefree – exactly how my life has been the last year. Iâve had the best 12 months of my life, and theyâve been spent completely single. I love having crushes and mutual fun with no commitment. I love the independence.â
With its punchy beat, groovy rhythms, and electronic touches, Super Single by Genes is an infectious and upbeat ditty. Sure to make even the stiffest amongst us move.

Tom Aspaul – Black Country Disco
Tom Aspaul is an artist from The Black Country, an area of the West Midlands in England. Hence the title of debut album: Black Country Disco.
Seven years ago, Aspaul wrote and recorded the track Indiana, which ended up being reimagined by Kylie Minogue as Feels So Good. This kickstarted his career as a songwriter proper. Since then, he also wrote for the likes of AlunaGeorge (Mediator), Little Boots (Working Girl) and Louise (Villain).
Following the end of a long-term relationship, as well as a growing disillusionment with the music industry, Aspaul moved out of London back home to the West Midlands. By writing his debut album, which takes listeners through all of the emotions of a breakup, he found himself again.
The title track, which closes the album, is my favourite song on it. Itâs up-beat and uplifting. A happy song with a positive outlook and a clear message: this man is free and he loves it.

Hedda Mae – Madness
It seems as if musical talent is part of the Norwegian DNA. 21-year-old Hedda Mae (Hedda Aalvik Grønhaug) is yet another potential future pop star. Her new single was co-written and produced by Benjamin Giørtz (TiÍsto, Betty Who), who did a great job as well.
Madness is an upbeat and fun pop song with a nu-disco flavour in the best Jamiroquai tradition. Full of â80s influences, itâs a slick and smart tune, extremely catchy and sure to make you feel good.
Hedda Mae explains: âThe lyrics are about when someone suddenly becomes interested in you and gets really friendly, and you question yourself about where theyâre really coming from. Because other peopleâs intentions often arenât good, and you know you shouldnât get involved really, but it can be difficult to keep yourself away.â
Her debut EP comes out on 16 October.
