Wildcard (week 3): Luude & Issey Cross (feat. Moby) – Oh My
Some songs bring back great memories. I remember only too well I drove on the island of Curaçao in a cabriolet, while Moby’s Porcelain blasted out of the car stereo. A wonderful holiday in lovely company, musically as well. That must have been in the summer of 2000, when Porcelain was a worldwide hit. A beautiful, subtle song that showed another side of an artist who was previously known mostly for his harder hitting, danceable songs. Personally, I love both sides of Moby’s artistic output.
23 years later, Australian producer Christian Benson (Luude) breathes new life in the classic track. It didn’t take him much more than the original strings and a frantic drum & bass beat to make it ready for today’s dance floors. Talented 21-year-old UK singer-songwriter Issey Cross then laid some beautiful vocals on it. The new version, re-titled Oh My, already received Moby’s seal of approval. He commented: “I’d love to say something smart or insightful about Oh My, but honestly when I first heard it I simply thought, ‘fuck, this is great!’”
Bound to become a huge hit all over again! You’d better put on your dancing shoes…
Oh My by Luude & Issey Cross (feat. Moby) is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. That means it’ll be featured prominently at the top of the blog for a whole week.

bülow – Revolver
Born in Germany, Megan Bülow grew up and lived in the UK, Canada and the United States. Nowadays however, the 21-year-old globetrotter operates from the Netherlands.
In 2017 already, her debut EP Damaged, Vol. 1 landed her the title New Artist Of The Week by Apple Music Canada. Three-and-a-half years later, the singer and songwriter worked with the likes of Ty Dolla $ign, Mura Masa and Fall Out Boy, gaining half a billion streams in the process.
bülow recently experimented with genres like trap and future bass, but her new single Revolver has more of a drum & bass vibe. They don’t come any more upbeat and catchy than this!

Tokio Myers (feat. Mychelle) – No More Gang Wars (Together)
Torville Jones is a pianist and music producer born in London, better known by his stage name Tokio Myers. His career took off after he won TV show Britain’s Got Talent in 2017.
As a follow-up to his debut album Our Generation, he just released the Black Dawn EP. It supports the Black Lives Matter movement and the fight for unity and equality. The three tracks feature black artists – Mychelle, Afronaut Zu, Kaidi Akinnibi and J’Danna – speaking about their experiences and everyday struggles in the hope of sparking powerful, honest and uncomfortable conversations.
No More Gang Wars (Together) is the EP’s lead track. It contains a beautiful string arrangement over a driving beat, which has a drum & bass feel about it. A great song with a powerful message.

High Contrast – God Only Knows
Drum & bass isn’t subtle music. It isn’t meant to be and it shouldn’t. Drum & bass is music to dance to and I love it for it. High Contrast, however, tries to throw in a pinch of class occasionally, and he can really pull it off. Especially when he builds a track around a classic sample, like Aretha Franklin’s 1965 single One Step Ahead in his own song Remind Me.
On his new single, High Contrast (real name: Lincoln Barrett) takes it one step further. A bold step, that will likely not be appreciated by everyone. Personally, I think this is very well done, but why don’t you judge for yourself? Sit tight for a quite ‘different’ take on the Beach Boys classic God Only Knows…
