Wildcard (week 43):
Superbus – Aseptisé
Superbus is a French band that was formed in 1999 by frontwoman (singer, multi-instrumentalist and main songwriter) Jennifer Ayache. She took the name from the Latin word for ‘great’. Among her biggest influences are other female-fronted acts like No Doubt, Garbage, Within Temptation and Texas. However, Superbus have a sound of their own, combining rock and electropop. A style they describe as ‘pop fiction’ of ‘free pop’.
Their break-through came in 2006 with their third album Wow, which contained the hits Butterfly and in particular Lola. More hits – sometimes in French, sometimes in English – followed.
The band is currently working on its seventh album and has been teasing the first single via their socials for some time now. This week, Aseptisé (French for ‘sterile’ or ‘sanitized’) finally came out. It’s one of Superbus’s trademark sophisticated pop-rock tracks. A funky guitar and a sing-along chorus which simply repeats the title to great effect, makes this an ultra catchy song. This will undoubtedly go down very well live.
‘Superbe’ indeed!
Aseptisé by Superbus is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. This implies that it will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for an entire week.
