The Go! Team – Semicircle Song
Brighton collective The Go! Team have announced their new album Semicircle will be released on 19 January 2018. The first single off it, Semicircle Song, is out now.
Never shy to provide us with a clash of genres, this time The Go! Team appear to have enlisted a marching band. It gives the song an organic, joyous sound, but you can leave it to The Go! Team to give it a psychedelic twist. Midway, all of the band members rattle off their astrological signs for no reason. It’s typical for the unsettling character of many of their songs.
With the uniformity of today’s pop music, The Go! Team are a welcome exception to the rule.

Absynthe Minded – Beam
Absynthe Minded has been ‘absent minded’ for five years, but last week they finally released their new album Jungle Eyes. First single The Execution already promised a strong return and the follow-up, Beam, is further proof that the Belgian band has only grown better during their absence.
In more ways than one, this is not the band it was before. For Jungle Eyes, singer Bert Ostyn and bass player Sergej Van Bouwel surrounded themselves with an all-new set of musicians. Absynthe Minded 1 was great already, Absynthe Minded 2 is even greater!

Alex Lahey – I Love You Like A Brother
This girl simply doesn’t stop producing great tracks. Her name: Alex Lahey. I already told you more about her when I reviewed her singles You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me, Lotto In Reverse and I Haven’t Been Taking Care Of Myself. A year and a half after that first track broke her in her native Australia, the talented singer put out her full-length debut. And boy, does it deliver!
The album I Love You Like A Brother is one up-tempo trip that doesn’t slow down until its closing song. All of the singles (except You Don’t Think…) are there, and I’d like to propose the title track – in which she addresses her now-repaired relationship with her brother – as a possible follow-up. A great sing-along rock song, made for the arenas!

Wild Beasts – Punk Drunk And Trembling
Wild Beasts were a British pop/rock band, founded in 2002. Their first single, Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants, was only released four years later. They went on to put out 19 more singles, five EP’s and just as many albums.
Why do I use the past tense, do you ask? Well, as recently as 25 September the band announced its split. Only days later they release a new single, Punk Drunk And Trembling. An uncovered gem from the recording sessions for Wild Beasts’ last album Boy King and arguably one of their strongest singles yet. It would be a fitting farewell if it would belatedly become their biggest hit.

Frills – Magic Tide
Last spring, New York based New-Zealand duo Frills released their debut single My Love. A song that caused me to keep an eye on them.
Their second single doesn’t disappoint. Simon Oscroft and Dan Gibson deliver another easy going slice of danceable indie pop. Surely, there’s more where this came from!

Hippo Campus – Baseball
Hippo Campus make smart music. That’s not strange for a band that named itself after a part of the brain. If you like Satellite Stories, then open your mind for Hippo Campus as well…
After releasing quite some singles and EP’s since 2015, their debut album Landmark came out only early this year. Now, seven months later, they quickly follow it up with the surprise EP Warm Glow, containing three brand new tracks. Long-term live favourite Baseball is the first single.

Alex Lahey – Lotto In Reverse / I Haven’t Been Taking Care Of Myself
As far as Alex Lahey is concerned, Europe is lagging behind Australia. In her homeland, the singer broke through in the spring of 2016 with her single You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me, a year before it was picked up by European radio stations. Over here, Lotto In Reverse is her new single; down under she already released the follow-up I Haven’t Been Taking Care Of Myself. Two equally great tracks, both of which I’d like to introduce to you (as I do below).
6 October her debut album I Love You Like A Brother comes out, also featuring first single Every Day’s A Weekend.
