RAC feat. Rivers Cuomo – I Still Wanna Know
AndrĂŠ Allen Anjos started RAC (Remix Artist Collective) as remixer of other artistsâ tracks. He is now about to follow up his first own album Strangers (2014) with his second long player, Ego, due 14 July. The album will feature collaborations with St. Lucia, Joywave and others.
As an appetiser, here is the new single I Still Wanna Know. It features vocals and a guitar solo from Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, who is not a stranger to collabs himself. In recent years, he worked with Simple Plan, Cee Lo Green, Big Data and Panic! At The Disco, among others.

Wildcard (week 21):
Rocky – Love Is A Soft Machine
Multi-instrumentalists Laurent Paingault, Tom Devos and Olivier Bruggeman, together with singer Inès Kikou, are Rocky. A French band that enters the ring with a great secret weapon: their new single Love Is A Soft Machine; more or less the title track off their debut album Soft Machines.
As far as Iâm concerned Rocky wins this match by knocking out the competition in the second round. Therefore, Love Is A Soft Machine is this weekâs Carte Blanche Music Wildcard!

The The – We Canât Stop Whatâs Coming
One of the highlights of Record Store Day 2017 was The Theâs first new single in 15 years. We Canât Stop Whatâs Coming is a tribute to The The frontman (and only constant member) Matt Johnsonâs brother Andrew, who designed many of the bandâs record sleeves and who passed away last year. Itâs the third time Johnson wrote a song about the death of a close family member, after Love Is Stronger Than Death (for his brother Eugene) and Phantom Walls for his mother).
We Canât Stop Whatâs Coming features former The The members Johnny Marr, Zeke Manyika and James Eller, on guitar, percussion and bass respectively. The female vocalist is Meja Kullertsen. The song was recorded live in one take during Matt Johnsonâs first performance in 15 years, on his own radio station.
After quickly selling out the always too low number of vinyl 7â-es (2000 copies, not kidding), the track has now also been made available via streaming services.

Parov Stelar feat. Muddy Waters – Soul Fever Blues
Parov Stelar (real name: Marcus FĂźreder) is an Austrian musician, composer, producer and DJ. He releases his music on his own label Etage Noir Recordings. Stelar was one of the first producers to combine electronic music with jazz and swing. Not only in his recordings, but also on stage, often with a live band.
On his latest album The Burning Spider, Stelar introduces some new influences, most notably blues. The album contains contributions from Lightninâ Hopkins, singer Anduze from the American Virgin Islands and, on my favourite track, from Muddy Waters.

Stevie Appleton – This Is America
In 2009, I first heard of Steve Appleton, a British singer-songwriter and producer, whose single Dirty Funk I liked a lot. Â A little contradictory, for an artist growing older, Steve nowadays calls himself Stevie.
His new single This Is America was originally released a year ago to little fanfare and only gets its full release right now. âItâs a song that just tells a story about reality and hope,â says Stevie on his returning single. âIt can either be literal or can hint towards a metaphor that’s open to interpret.â
This Is America is the first single off his upcoming EP. The track was produced by Danton Supple, who worked with Coldplay, U2 and many more.
Meanwhile, Stevie Appleton is also the featured singer on the single Never Let You Down, by talented Dutch dance producer Trobi.

Plgrms – Dream You Up
Plgrms is a Sydney-based duo comprised of singer-songwriter Jacob Pearson and songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Bowden. They make an infectious, dreamy kind of indie pop.
So far, they have come up with only four singles: after Pieces, Fools And Their Gold and Gemini, Plgrms just released Dream You Up.

Wildcard (week 20):
Saint Motel – Destroyer
âOnce upon a timeâ I recommended Move by Saint Motel. A great band with hooks strong enough to tow a truck. I loved playing their songs in my Carte Blanche radio show and via this blog I intend to continue my mission to bring them to the masses.
When I wrote about the single Move, I took the opportunity to point your attention to the track Destroyer off their album Saintmotelevision as well. At Saint Motel HQ someone must have liked that song as much as I do, for it has been chosen as the bandâs next single.
So here it is once again. And since I like to put my money where my mouth is, I chose Destroyer as next weekâs Carte Blanche Music Wildcard, which means it will feature prominently at the top of this blog, only one click away to enjoy it!

Rocky – Love Is A Soft Machine
Rocky is another great French band. Multi-instrumentalists Laurent Paingault and Tom Devos met in the North of France in the late 90âs and were later joined by Olivier Bruggeman. In 2010, they linked up with Inès Kikou. Raised in the Paris suburbs on a diet of R&B and most contemporary rap, she became the bandâs singer.
They play their first concert in 2011, opening for The Shoes. A decisive encounter. After Rocky make a remix of The Shoesâ Time To Dance, that bandâs Guillaume Brière produces Rockyâs first EP.
Now, their debut album Soft Machines is out, which was overseen by Brière as well. Love Is A Soft Machine is Rockyâs new single. A great track with a New Order-like bassline. Whatâs not to love about it?

Mist feat. Alondra Bentley – Fade In Fade Out
As a new track for his most recent outtakes & rarities album Underwater – the last to be released under the Mist moniker – singer Rick Treffers re-recorded the beautiful track Fade In Fade Out. Originally from his 2002 debut album We Should Have Been Stars, the song now appears as a duet.
Co-vocalist Alondra Bentley, born in the UK but raised in Spain, adds an extra touch of delicacy to the already beautiful song. Itâs plain and simple, just like the video.
