The Knocks – Shades
James ‘JPatt’ Patterson and Ben ‘DJ B-Roc’ Ruttner met at New York City’s New School and formed The Knocks in 2008. That name stems from the early days of their career, when loud music coming from the studio in their apartment would lead to neighbours constantly knock on their door in order to get them to lower the volume.
The production and DJ duo specialize in melodic, carefree music that’s heavily influenced by soul, funk, disco, rap, and pop. After making numerous remixes for the likes of Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Tegan & Sara and The 1975, their break-through as artists in their own right came with 2014’s Classic (which also forced the break-through of featured duo Powers).
Fast forward to 2018… The Knocks are back with another classic. Their new single Shades has an authentic-sounding funky bassline, a great groove and a horn arrangement that nobody can sit still to. If it wouldn’t be summer yet, it would start immediately!
