Wildcard (week 27):
Seafret & KT Tunstall – Five More Seconds
Just in case you spent the last 20 years on Mars, let me introduce this week’s headliners to you.
Seafret are a Yorkshire duo, consisting of best friends and musical co-conspirators Jack Sedman and Harry Draper. Their 2016 single Atlantis gained a whole new lease of life over the past three years via a viral TikTok moment. It now has over a billion streams on Spotify alone.
KT Tunstall, obviously, needs even less of an introduction. After all, the Scottish musician scored global hits with Black Horse And The Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See. Both are on her 2004 multi-platinum debut album Eye To The Telescope.
If you were curious to know what a collaboration would sound like, this is your chance. Five More Seconds is an upbeat song that captures the intense emotions associated with the tension of choice, consequence, and a haunting ‘what if’. It somehow reminds me of When You’re Gone by Bryan Adams & Melanie C., which can’t be a bad thing. The song is compelling and evocative already, but Tunstall adds her own flair and a sense of nostalgia to it.
Speaking on how the collab came to be, Seafret shared: “When we set out making this record we knew we wanted to bring in some incredible people and collaborate. When we found out KT Tunstall was in town and up for it we were so happy! We had no idea how it would go or what we’d write but this idea started circling in the room. Suddenly it was there in front of us like it was meant to be. We have always loved KT’s voice and her songwriting so bringing this song to life with her has been a real privilege.”
Five More Seconds by Seafret & KT Tunstall is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. It will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for an entire week.
