Wildcard (week 28):
Ella Red – I Like You Best
Ella Red is a 20-year-old singer and songwriter from Frisco, Texas. At the age of six, she learned herself to play the piano. Since then she picked up multiple instruments, including the cello, and started to write her own lyrics. She calls herself a ‘lyricist at heart and a musician since birth’.
Red released nine tracks since debuting two years ago. Her music has an alternative pop sound, while her lyrics are very relatable, especially for people her age. She says it’s her goal ‘to spread her message of honesty and the issues within society today through her music to every corner of the world’.
Her new single I Like You Best clearly fall in that first category… “It’s a song about my partner worshiping my body (in a non-holy way)”, she writes on her Insta. The engaging lyrics are amplified by dirty guitar licks, catchy hooks and infectious rhythms.
This week, I like Ella Red’s single best, so it’s the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. This implies that it will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for seven full days.
