Wildcard (week 3):
Suki Waterhouse – OMG

Suki Waterhouse has been releasing music since 2016, but her first album I Can’t Let Go only came in 2022. Since then, the 32-year-old singer-songwriter has been working non-stop. She put out one-off singles, an EP, and collaborated with Belle & Sebastian and Local Natives. Next to that, Suki starred as Karen Sirko in the television miniseries ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’.

This new year will be all about her sophomore album. Just like her debut, it’ll be out on the legendary Sub Pop label (Nirvana, The Postal Service, The White Stripes, Saint Etienne, The Shins and many more). The record will be released later this year, but Waterhouse is tight-lipped about its title. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone however, she did reveal the album’s concept is ‘metamorphosis’. Arctic Monkeys served as a major sonic inspiration, but she’s also listening to Lucinda Williams, Doja Cat, Kelis, Marianne Faithfull, the Association, Angie Stone, William Bell, and Oasis currently. Quite a mixed bag…

If it’s anything to go by, her new single OMG is a sleazy pop-rock track. It’s full of ‘90s-tinged guitars and has a catchy chorus that’s sure to stick in your brain. In the song, the indie star searches for the person she was before succumbing to a toxic love affair.

OMG by Suki Waterhouse is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. This implies that it will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for an entire week.
