Wildcard (week 4):
-M- (feat. Fatoumata Diawara & Oxmo Puccino) – Bal De Bamako
-M- is the stage name of French singer-songwriter and guitarist Matthieu Chedid. This year itβs 20 years ago that his debut record came out. In March he releases his sixth album Lamomali. -M- recorded it with Malian musicians Toumani DiabatΓ© and Sidiki DiabatΓ©.
The first single off the album, the brilliant Bal De Bamako, features singer Fatoumata Diawara and rapper Oxmo Puccino, who are both originally from Mali as well. The track combines disco, funk, hip hop and world music into one swinging mix (or should I say βmelangeβ?). While listening how that sounds, take a closer look at the beautiful artwork. Things are not always what they seemβ¦
The whole week, this great song will feature prominently on this blog, as it’s the new Wildcard!
