Wildcard (week 46):
Little Juke – No Illusions
GB

Little Juke only formed in January 2024. Hailing from the West Midlands (UK), they found each other through various musical projects and friends. Little Juke are a melting pot of influences, that amalgamate to make a soaring, cinematic, indie sound. Their debut single Down The Rabbit Hole already featured on a BBC series. This, combined with their energetic live performances, quickly provided for a devoted fanbase and sold-out hometown shows.

Now, the alternative quartet is ready for the next step. Sophomore single No Illusions kicks in with an uplifting string part and a vocal melody that brings Kasabian to mind. (The band themselves mention Foals, The Black Keys and UNKLE as some of their influences, by the way.) A driving beat and horn section further add to an epic sound that is bound to go down well at concerts.

“This is one of our favourites to play live”, confirms frontman Alex Conrad Ohm. “It blends classical and modern sounds effortlessly and always gets the crowd going. It’s a song about belief and writing your own destiny.”

No Illusions is the second track to be released from the band’s upcoming debut album Departures From The States Of Mind, set for release on 13 February 2025. Little Juke is very likely to grow big sooner rather than later.

This week, No illusions is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. It will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for a full seven days.
