Wildcard (week 7):
Home Counties – Uptight

Home Counties are a six-piece that grew up together in a small village outside of Buckinghamshire (UK), but moved collectively to London. The band has recently welcomed new vocalist Lois Kelly, marking their transition towards a more rhythmic and melodic pop sound.

Their debut album Exactly As It Seems will be out on 3 May. Following Bethnal Green and Wild Guess, Uptight is the third single to be released ahead of it.

Contrary to the title, it’s a beat-driven, irresistibly danceable tune. The fresh and funky track is an anti-clubbing anthem. It details all the cons of a night out on the town in your mid-twenties.

Vocalist and guitarist Will Harrison explains the song is a modern response to a β€˜00s club banger, albeit with a twist. It focuses on the aversion and dissatisfaction associated with clubbing, ranging from exorbitant prices to the discomfort of feeling out of place and aging. In other words: the single is both a critique and celebration of the clubbing experience.

Uptight by Home Counties is the new Carte Blanche Music Wildcard. This implies that it will be prominently displayed at the top of the blog for an entire week.
