20 years ago, Willow Smith was born in a family of creatives. Her father Will Smith was an actor and scored multiple worldwide hits as a rapper. Her mother Jada Pinkett Smith was an actress as well, and started a musical career as a singer and songwriter in heavy metal band Wicked Wisdom.

At age 3-7, Willow accompanied her mother’s band on tour. The rock vocals and crushing guitars paved the way for her own musical tastes, including My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Fall Out Boy and more. When Willow started making music of her own, it initially was alternative R&B and neo-soul. Her upcoming (fifth) album however will be a rock record. On her new songs, for the first time, she can show her skills as a guitar player. Also, her new music is deeply inspired by her heroes and the music she grew up listening to. Some of those heroes, like Avril Lavigne and blink-182’s Travis Barker, will even appear on the long-player.

Transparent Soul (written as t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l) is Willow’s new single. A full-on rock song indeed, featuring rollicking drums courtesy of Travis Barker, who co-wrote the track. A promising career move!
